Gillingham move into a Trophy qualifying place without kicking a ball
A draw at Northampton next Tuesday would be enough to reach the knockout stage.
Gillingham moved into second place in their Jersey Mike's Trophy group on Tuesday night without playing, KentOnline reports.
Cambridge United's 6-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion under-21s in their final Southern Section Group G game lifted the Gills above the Seagulls on goal difference.
Gillingham go to Northampton Town for their last group game next Tuesday (7pm). Avoiding defeat would see them qualify in second, and they could still go through if they lose by the odd goal.
The Gills have not got past the group stage in any of the past six seasons.
